I have no idea. You have no idea. No one else has any idea. But does it really matter?
When I first started playing around with this site, my intention was simply to teach myself a little more about web development and basic coding while providing more technical people with a laugh at my expense. As I’ve learned more and more I have come to realize that my original theme for this site has changed. But to what?
Reading back through the posts, I’ve found that I actually only have 2 major theme categories that I write about: 1. Issues with Internet Explorer and how to get around it/them. 2. Mountain biking. Every other post is just a random thought that has nothing in common with anything else.
Why am I writing about more random crap that you couldn’t care less about this? I have decided to start another website.
In my search to find more information about mountain biking around San Antonio, I’ve found there are a lot of people who ride, but really no one place for mtb riders to find info about riding in this area. So I’ve decided to take my most commonly posted topic and create an online destination for people around it.
I’m going to do most of the development for the new site in a somewhat un-orthodox manner. Meaning, all development will be done live – not behind any index page or offline. There will be an official launch date (tentatively August 1), but anyone who stops by before then can view the progress, offer suggestions and critique everything as often as they want (actually I encourage this – your thoughts and advice can only help to produce a better final product).
If everything goes as planned I should have most of the work finished by the last week of July. At that time, I’ll put an index page up to hide everything, add in some last surprises and then unveil the finished product to everyone about a week later (Aug 1).
As of right now, I’ve already started working a little (ok hardly any, but there’s at least something to see when you go to the url). The main part of the site will be a blog area – but not just for me – for anyone who wants to submit a thought about riding. Other pages I’ve planned will include trail maps, videos, reviews on different riding areas and special deals I find on any equipment, clothing, bikes and accessories. The other big part of the site will be a discussion forum where everyone can post their thoughts about the ongoing development or talk about anything else. -The Forum is actually almost finished being built and is ready for use now!
My idea for constantly updating content on the main site is to encourage others in the area who are also passionate about riding to submit their own pictures, stories and videos of them and their friends riding bikes. I haven’t been riding everywhere around south Texas, but if you have – tell your story, tell us about your favorite trails and how to get to them, submit a video of your friend’s explosive crash or just upload a picture of the new bike you just purchased. I believe this is the type of thing that will create the community feel and make the new site become what I, and many others in the area, have been looking around for.
Ok, I’ve talked your ear -err…uh…eyes off…uh…yeah… Ready for the new site’s url? Click the picture below and you’ll go straight there. Remember to check out the discussion forum and leave me your thoughts about the on-going site development (you will need to register a username and password to comment).
Have fun.
